How do Dental Implants Work?
A dental implant is a small, titanium post. When inserted below the gum line, the dental implant fuses with the jaw and gums, mimicking the lost tooth roots. Directly following the surgical implantation process, a protective cap is placed over the top of the implant post. Once the post has fused with the jawbone, patients return so we can attach an abutment piece. Once the abutments are attached, we’ll capture impression of the bite that will be used by a lab to craft the dental restoration that will attach to the abutments.
What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?
Dental implants have numerous benefits including:
- Longevity – dental implant supported restorations can last for decades or an entire lifetime with proper care
- Stability – implant supported tooth replacement creates improved stability, especially for advanced prosthetics like dentures, and allows patients to confidently speak, chew, and smile
- Natural appearance – dental implant supported prosthetics look, feel, and function more like healthy teeth
- Improved oral health – the dental implants provide stimulation to the soft tissue and jawbone that ensures patients maintain their smooth, youthful facial appearance and avoid dental shifting and further tooth loss
How much do Dental Implants Cost?
Dental implants are a higher investment on the front end than other tooth replacement options. However, in addition to looking and feeling more like a natural tooth, dental implants can last a lifetime with proper care, making your initial investment worthwhile. The cost of dental implant restoration varies significantly depending on the type and size of the implant, difficulty of placement, need for preparatory procedures like tooth extraction, and a number of other factors. The best way to get an idea of how much your dental implant tooth replacement will cost is to schedule a consultation appointment. We’ll evaluate your unique situation and explain the costs associated with your personalized treatment plan.
What is the Success Rate of Dental Implants?
Many patients worry that they will experience dental implant failure. Unfortunately, you have likely seen horror stories if you’ve done any research into the dental implant process. The good news is, these bad responses are the exception not the rule. In the past several decades, dental implant placement procedures have a 98% success rate. The key is to have the dental implants properly placed by a skilled professional who uses the best diagnostic imaging to create a predictable treatment plan. Our team has a 3D cone beam scanner that allows us to safely and effectively place implant posts. We take the necessary time to carefully plan your dental implant placement procedure to further improve chances for successful implantation. We will also provide patients with thorough post-operative care instructions to help you successfully heal and prevent dental implant failure.
